At the Southern most point on the Mainland US, lies the alternative Key West. Bohemian in attitude and very unconventional, with an attraction for famous Writers, such as Hemmingway, Tennessee Williams and self expressed, sub tropical, Musicians and Artists.
Key West has a strong affinity with the due east Islands of the Bahamas, the Lifestyle, Architecture and the warm friendly people. Geographically, Key West is an excellent location, lying about 100 miles North of Cuba and 130 miles South West of Miami and 180 Nautical Miles due West of the Bahamas. Since the 1830's many immigrants arrived from the Bahamas, who fled here during the American Revoultion, who later became known locally as "Conch's".
Key West is known for the Conch Republic after the Border was closed to the US in 1982. It is also famous for the Maritime Museum, which has treasure from around the World. There is a huge selection of Culture and Entertainment, with Art Galleries, Theatre, Historical Bars and Restaurants, Botanical Gardens and the Key West Butterfly & Nature Conservatory. Every June, there is also the Pridefest Gay and Lesbian Festival.
