The Turks and Caicos Islands lie East of Cuba in the North Caribbean, they were found by the Great Christopher Columbus over 500 years ago. Due to the diversity of the islands, they were once a popular pirate Hide Out.
The Islands are divided into 2 main groups separated by the Turks passage, they are part of the Bahamas geographically, but with a different government. There are over 200 miles of Idyllic beaches, with primarily very sunny weather. Though the Islands are in the path of the Summer hurricanes.
The Turks & Caicos Islands have a very low population of approx. 33,000 residents. The majority live in the Caicos Islands with Providenciales as the main urban centre. The Turks chain is a lot smaller with the 2 main islands of Grand Turk and Salt Cay, with Grand Turk being the capital. The Islands are a British territory and are famous for truly excellent shellfish.
