The Island of Hispaniola is the second largest island in the Caribbean and located in the northern Caribbean between Cuba, Jamaica and Puerto Rico. The Dominican Republic occupies two-thirds of the eastern side, the smaller third is Haiti. The Dominican Republic, better known as Santo Domingo is a lush and mountainous island cut by deep valleys with streams and a tropical climate, cultivating tobacco, sugar cane, coffee, rice, pineapple, banana and coconut.
Claimed by Christopher Columbus in 1492, the Dominican Republic has tourist resorts such as Boca Chica, Punta Cana, Salinas, Palma de Ocoa only a few kilometers from the capital Santo Domingo. Many visitors have been fascinated by the beauty of the place and decided to stop and open restaurants, bars and nightclubs that fill the days and nights of fun and relaxation. Santo Domingo has over 500km of beautiful beaches. High-class hotels are situated in Bayahibe and Dominicus, near La Romana, the island's second city and international airport.
The Domincan Republic is Paradise for divers. Las Terrenas, Las Galeras, Sosua, Rio San Juan, all locations are spectacular. At Punta Cana, the eastern tip of the island there are 35 kilometers of uninterrupted beaches lapped by turquoise waters and shaded by thousands of coconut trees. This is the ideal place for unforgettable walks. The local Dominican Cusine comprises of simple, but very tasty ingredients, such as the national dish of rice, beans, stewed meat, salad and fried vegetables. Also very popular is the "pescado con coco" fresh fish in a coconut milk sauce.
Local culture is very colourful with Vibrant music, Colourful Art, Clothes and Dance. There is very little temperature variation between Summer & Winter and a visit to the Dominican Republic will remain amongst your fondest travel memories.
