The small Rocky Island of Mykonos is one of the most popular in the Cyclades. It's located in the Northern Cyclades and it is only a day's sail to the main Cyclades Islands of Andros, Kea, Naxos, Delos, Tinos, Siros, Serifos, Paros, Santorini, Ios & Milos.
Mykonos is cooled all Summer by the Meltemi winds from the North. It has been an international favorite long before Shirley Valentine with Bohemians in the 60's. Then European Jet setters and recently a popular destination for Gay Travelers.
Mykonos has more than 250 churches. They are a characteristic element of the Greek Landscape. The most famous church in Mykonos is the Panagia Paraportiani. There are no ancient sites, except on the neighbour Island of Delos.
Mykonos Town is a Picture Postcard on every corner. Sugar-Cube houses are designed in a maze-like fashion to confuse marauding pirates and visiting tourists. Be sure to bring your GPS enabled Smart Phone. There are excellent beaches along the South Coast with quite restricted development. There are some quiet remote beaches in the windy north, though Panormos Bay provides some shelter.
