The island of Poros is situated 32 miles South of Piraeus in the southern part of the Saronic Gulf. Poros is separated from the mainland coast of Galatas and the Peloponnese by a 200 meter wide canal. The Island has approximately 4250 inhabitants.
Poros is rich in ancient history with a Museum and several archaeological sites around the island. Including the ruins of the Doric temple of Poseidon. Poros was the birthplace of King Theseus of Athens, son of Poseidon and mythological hero. With the help of Arianna he defeated the Minotaur in the labyrinth of Crete at the time of Minos.
Poros and Galatas are excellent starting points for Charter Holidays in the beautiful Saronic Golf. The island is covered with lush pine forests that descend to gorgeous beaches lapped by crystal clear waters, ideal for scuba diving, snorkeling and other water sports.
Poros is a good place to buy provisions and has an excellent Night Life with many Bars, Shops and Greek Taverns.
