The Greek Island of Samos is the closest of the Greek Islands to mainland Turkey. The Island lies 1 nautical mile from Cape Mykale in the eastern Aegean Sea. Samos is a tall island with thick Pine forests with beautiful villages unequalled elsewhere and is considered one of the most beautiful of the Aegean Greek Islands.
The Island of Samos is full of history, Art, Poetry, Temples, Pirates and Nautical battles. Once home to Aesop, Pythagoras and Anthony. Samos was once the wealthiest Islands of the Aegean. Tourism is extremely important to the Island. There are numerous beaches on the Island and the Kokkari is a popular Windsurf Resort.
Samos is a Happy island with very friendly locals. It has a fine selection of local wines and is ideal for the adventurous and energetic. It has many different migratory birds, pretty hill-villages, Monasteries and rare Monk Seals. Lastly the Archaeological Museum at Vathy represents one of the best collections in Greece.
